Fees and Financial Support

University fees are to be paid on each academic year. They are determined by the Board of Directors on a yearly basis, and normally announced in the month of June for the following academic year.

For the a.y. 2020/21, they vary from € 356 to € 2,556 per year, depending on the student’s country of origin.

There are several bodies that can provide financial support to international students:

  • The University of Pisa offers financial contributions to the best admitted international students and to international students achieving the best results during their studies. Top selected applicants in the first call for the a.y. 2021/22 (deadline February 14, 2021) will receive a special UniPischolarship, which will be awarded taking into account the applicants CV, interview results, CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and country of origin. The scholarship will cover two years, as follows:
    • First academic year: € 6,000 net, and waiving of University fees;
    • Second academic year: € 8,000 net, and 50% reduction of the University fees, subject to performance verification (at least 36 ECTS with a CGPA of at least 25 out of 30).

More information is available at https://www.unipi.it/contribution.

  • The DSU regional programme (DSU is Diritto allo Studio Universitario, “Right to Study”) offers financial support to students of universities in Tuscany. International students can apply for a DSU scholarship and can be granted:
    • tuition waivers or reductions;
    • a full scholarship including free accommodation, meals, and a monthly allowance to cover for extra expenses (e.g., sporting activities, books, etc.).

More information on DSU scholarships can be found here. Please be aware that DSU is a regional agency, not linked to the University of Pisa.

  • The Italian Government offers scholarships to foreign students within the Study in Italy programme.
  • Your own government may have programmes to support your studying abroad, or specific bilateral agreements with the Italian university system or the University of Pisa in particular (see here for further information).
